To have Joanna, Alex, and Jinny be the first seniors to have an art show this year was a great idea. They blew it out of the park. I absolutely loved the show. This is the first time that it wasn’t three separate shows, but one cohesive gallery of three artists. Last year, every show I saw was the same. The work was different, but the presentations were the same. Having a collaborated show was perfect. It made me more excited to see the show. The instillation was unique and made me very interested to see more. I love that the artists featured took something common in their work, and used it in a collective unit. Each artist’s work complimented another artist’s work. There were similarities, especially between Joanna’s and Jinny’s work. Alex’s photos are different, but still works well with the other’s work. Overall, I believe the gallery was a great first show for the 2013-2014 year.
Throughout the show a viewer sees several different pieces of JInny, Joanna, and Alex. Jinny has a technical skill I have not seen before. Her work with pen and paper is amazing, but she is also gifted with paint, charcoal, and pencil. Same with Joanna. She is a wonderful artists that has great skill with paint, but she is also great with pencil and charcoal as well. Alex is something else. For his young age, I cannot believe the incredible work he is developing. His images are great and they are very deep. There is so much going on in his work, but you wouldn’t be able to tell from seeing him. All of these are different in their own unique way.
One of my favorite pieces by Joanna was the work with acrylic and colored pencil. Her skill is really portrayed in that piece. She says, “We are more alike than we are different” I think her work speaks this. My favorite pieces Jinny did were her pieces with pen. They are very intricit and they are amazing. I absolutely love them. Alex's photography is very cool. I can't believe how good he is. My favorite Alex pieces’ are the ones at the beach. They are dark, but are so full of meaning.
